I don't write a ton of "blog blogs" anymore (much to the anger of Noel, haha) but I feel the need today.
This Sunday, Hamilton, Ontario sees perhaps it's biggest indy wrestling promotion pack it in. A-1 Wrestling closes its doors in 6 days. What does that have to do with Noel, myself and TTOFS? Lots, actually...
Alpha-1 Wrestling begain in early 2010, as did Try This On For Size. Our first show selling our wares happened during the 2nd A1 show in the Spring of 2010. It started as a good day, selling a few tees, making contacts and watching our beloved bud, Cody Shore make contact with the mat from the 2nd turnbuckle, destroying his knee. As sad as that was it resulted in one of Noel's funniest lines; "Brendan's [Cody] down!"
We then went on to print t-shirts for A-1 and we continued to sell TTOFS merch at shows and even tried our hand (or mouths) at commentary. Noel and I, in most things we do together (wakka, wakka) have a great chemistry and a penchant for draining brews while doing so, which wasn't always looked upon fondly by A1 management, but they always stood by us and eventually we got our acts together and still lay down some vocals in the ol commentary booth. Julian (owner/wrassler Ethan Page) always stuck his neck out for us, which gave the promotion the 'family' feel as people were brought in that a) could do their thing and b) were welcomed additions to the A1 gang. No riff raff need apply.
Why am I writing this? Is it a form of ass smoochery? Nope. Rather, there are a crap ton of parallels between A1 and TTOFS. 2 brands that were looked down upon, not given a ton of intial support or a second glance from most people and 2 brands that excelled despite nay-sayers and became something bigger than what most (ourselves included) could have expected.
We both became self-sustaining and I am grateful to be associated with both companies!
And Julian, if you are reading this, FINNNNEEE NOEL AND I WILL MAIN EVENT THE LAST SHOW! HOLY CRAP ALL YOU HAD TO DO WAS ASK!!!
